When it comes to finding mold in your home - and removing it for good - sometimes the most dangerous part is assuming we have all the information.

The truth is, if mold has oxygen, a food source (like dirt or dust), and moisture, that’s everything it needs to grow.

And while you can try to remove the mold yourself, how can you be sure it won’t come back again?

(Or worse, how can you be sure you got it all? 👀)

One place to start: knowing mold fact from mold fiction.

To help, I’ve rounded up three of the most common misconceptions around mold that can lead to big problems.

(Plus, you can test your knowledge at the end - with a chance to win a $25 gift card to Red Truck Bakery in Marshall!)

Let’s get into it.

🚫 Mold Myth #1: If you can’t see mold, it’s not there.

✅ Fact: Mold often grows in hidden places like inside walls, under carpets, or in HVAC systems. Just because it's not visible doesn't mean it's not present and causing problems!

🚫 Mold Myth #2: Black mold is the only dangerous type of mold.

✅ Fact: All mold growing indoors is "bad" mold - unhealthy and/or an irritant to occupants - regardless of the type. The color doesn't determine how dangerous the mold might be.

🚫 Mold Myth #3: Bleach kills all mold completely.

✅ Fact: Bleach only works on surface mold on non-porous materials. It doesn't penetrate porous surfaces like wood or drywall where mold roots can grow.
