How to be sure your HVAC is summer-ready
Summer heat and humidity are creeping in – can your HVAC system handle it?
HVAC systems work overtime during the summer months, and to effectively cool your home, they have to manage a lot of moisture - which can lead to a buildup of mold (or other expensive issues) if not serviced regularly.
The good news is, there are several simple things you can DIY to prevent mold growth and avoid costly summertime HVAC emergencies.
Here are the 4 preventative DIY tasks I’d recommend:
✅ Replace your HVAC filters every 1-3 months.
This keeps air clean and protects your system to ensure it’s working properly.
✅ Flush and drain HVAC condensate lines twice a year.
This will keep algae and mold at bay if it’s starting to develop. You can do this by pouring a small cup of diluted white vinegar down your HVAC’s access pipe.
✅ Keep indoor humidity levels under 50%.
This can help prevent mold growth in vents and ductwork. If you notice perpetually high humidity levels in your home, consider investing in a dehumidifier.
✅ Check the HVAC drip pan monthly during the summertime.
And if you notice mold or standing water, consider calling an HVAC specialist - this could indicate a clogged filter, frozen evaporator coil, or a blocked drain line.
Keeping up with regular prevention like this can save you expensive repairs down the road – but if you ever do need an HVAC specialist to come out and take a look, we’re happy to recommend someone who can help.
